One:12 Collective Superman - 1978 Edition

“You’ll believe a man can fly.”

Based on Richard Donner’s Academy Award nominated film “Superman”, the Man of Steel joins the One:12 Collective.

The One:12 Collective Superman – 1978 Edition is outfitted in his iconic suit from the film, which proudly displays the ‘House of El’ family crest and features a cape with an integrated posing wire. Two head portraits are included depicting Christopher Reeves portrayal of Superman. The Last Son of Krypton comes complete with a Fortress of Solitude base that features a light-up function which can be activated by specific placement of the included Kryptonian crystals, or via an on/off switch.

Superman comes with a range of Kryptonite accessories including a fragment which can be held in his left hand, and a Kryponite pendant with a real chain, as used by Lex Luthor in the film.

Sent to Earth from his dying planet of Krypton, Kal-El is raised by farmers Johnathan and Martha Kent who name him Clark and raise him as their own. Reeve is done a great honor

Mezco One:12 Superman - 1978 Edition

Early COVID, I bought a drone, bear with me I'm going somewhere with this.  I realized I needed a permit to fly in local parks, so I went out the day this Superman was put up for Pre-Order on MezcoToyz.com.  I was in a county park, waiting in line, a bizarrely long line for a permit.  I must have been there over an hour.  During that hour, Khalil over at KastorsKorner.com / @kastorskorner along with Jesse from @yfnjman started blowing up my Facebook Messenger because this was going live in X, and I had totally spaced on the fact, until they reminded, I think it was Jesse that started the thread.  So I'm at the park, with limited Internet connection, and I'm battling to get a MezcoToyz, potentially site crashing pre-order in.  After 35 minutes, and 6 failed payments because Citibank wasn't feeling cooperative that day, I got my order in, and I've been exceptionally excited for this figure to be delivered ever since.  This for me, is the icon, the Superman.  Christopher Reeve is, and always shall be my idea of Superman, a part of my childhood, a part of my life, and a part of the life I'm shaping for my children too.  Simply the best, and what you'll come to find, is that Mezco has treated this beloved representation of the Last Son of Krypton with love, respect, care, and reverence.

Superman

I generally like to start with the figure, but holy moly the Crystal Console is AAAMAZING!!  It lights up! It looks like it fell off of the freakin' screen!
The packaging is just pretty.  Beautiful round tin
Opening is fun and the packaging inside is built around the console
Accessories:
Logo Display base
Flight stand
Crystal Console
9 total hands
3 heads
Kryptonite necklace
3 Kryptonian Crystals
His hair, so important, the curl it's there
His face goes from looking good to looking exceptional based on the angle across all three heads, even the nutty smirk
The cape includes wiring for posing with the bright popping yellow on the back
Belt yellow and chest logo yellow and red really pop
You can get Supes into his iconic flight poses, but the head, if it tilted up just a little more.....

The rest

Zod? Ursa? Non?  Honestly, never felt like I needed them, but today...today I need them.  This Superman figure speaks to the very soul of my childhood.  Whenever I look on it I will in fact hear the theme song.  Mezco has done, just an outstanding job of capturing the Superman I grew up with, and that I will always treasure beyond all others.  I know purists will differ on my position, but this is the guy, this is my Superman, and no amount of history will change that.  I can't encourage enough, fans of Superman, and the 78 movie / series need this figure.  It is runaway the best replication of the character from the film that I've ever seen.  Speaking of, it makes me want to go watch that classic (almost whole) series!

Super figure!

Pictures don't do this figure justice, it looks phenomenal in hand. The inclusion of a 3rd head sculpt was a great surprise as well. I generally collect 1/4 scale figures but was intrigued by this one when the pre-order came out and decided to order it with the thought that I could always sell if I didn't like it. I will most definitely be keeping this and absolutely recommend this one to anyone that's a fan of Christopher Reeve.

Best Christopher Reeve likeness on the market

Honestly, found this by accident...already had a couple DC Multiverse Superman figures when I saw the listing on Google for Mezco Toys. As soon as I saw it, I had to have it...it IS Christopher Reeve, the most precisely detailed version of his 1978 Man of Steel. Many Superman actors have come and gone, but for some of us (like me), Christopher Reeve set the standard and this figure honors that standard.
