The Hero From the Sky Has Landed in the One:!2 Colelctive and it's Groovy!!!

Evil Dead 2 is a fantastic film, and this figure is a fantastic representation of Ash as he appears in the film. Mezco really delivers the museum display version of Ash. I really appreciate that. He has just about everything you need for the character's adventure in the cabin. For myself, the articulation works well, and the use of cloth goods makes the figure pop on a shelf. Any Evil Dead fan would be really hard pressed to not have this in your collection. It's a wonderful piece of figure art that you shouldn't pass out on!

A Groovy Figure Indeed

Evil Dead 2 is one of my all-time favorite movies so I definitely was excited about Mezco's One:12 Collective Ash figure and was not disappointed in the least. I love that you can change out his hand for the chainsaw and the different heads showing him looking normal and then covered in blood, allowing you to appropriately show his progression through the film as the battle with the Deadites takes its took. The likeness of Bruce Campbell is decent on the non-bloody figure but particularly strong on the bloodier face, and the figure looks terrific overall, with a ton of options for poses The inclusion of the Necronomicon is a great touch as well. Fingers crossed we might get an Army of Darkness Ash figure in the future, with his metal hand and cape? Or perhaps even an S-Mart version...

Mezco has outdone themselves

There are a lot of toy companies out there, they are all similar, one thing that separates Mezco from the others is their quest to continually improve on their current line of products without constantly raising their prices. This isn’t anything that I know they’ve said, this is strictly my own observations. I never had a lot of Mezco pieces in my horror collection early on. Now, I’m quickly building that segment of my collection because their offerings have really come a long way.

Take this new Ash Williams figure from Evil Dead II. Since Frankenstein (which I never got my hands on) a few years back, the One:12 Collective figures have been something I wanted but never took the leap because of the price. Last year I pre-ordered my first one, the Michael Myers Halloween figure. Myers being one of my all-time favorite characters in horror, that just seemed to be the right one for me to jump on, and it’s a great figure. The Sculpt and articulation and the extras that came with it, it all showed how worthwhile having these figures was. The packaging, it showed how much Mezco does for adult collectors.

But then Ash showed up…

Another pre-order, I had to pull the trigger on this Evil Dead II figure because I already bought the Michael Myers, I might as well keep going and what better figure than another of my long-time favorites, this time a hero of horror.

The One:12 Ash Williams figure is a bit of perfection. There are two normal heads, the sculpt isn’t perfect on the one, but the other with the blood, it’s dead on. The deadite Ash head is also perfectly done, looking exactly like the possessed character from the film. The cloth clothing with the ripped strip from his shirt and the way it’s been colored is just incredible; it just all looks so authentic to the movie. The detail on the chainsaw, Necronomicon, and shotgun, the poseability, the severed Henrietta head and Ash’s severed hand, it’s all so wonderfully Evil Dead!

I normally just take pictures of my pieces for curating purposes, but this figure is so fun I just couldn’t stop taking photos of him. As much as I love Michael Myers, how many poses can you do with such a stoic character? But Ash… I had a lot of fun playing with this figure.

I know they are trying to give customers the biggest bang for their buck, but I found the extra hands a bit superfluous. There are two that are closed, those are really just unnecessary. The other hand holds the book and one holds the boomstick. There is a really great harness for the shotgun holder and it’s the first time I’ve seen this particular detail done the right way where the boomstick fits exactly how it should.

They, of course, include a stand with the movie’s title on it and the option for a clamping armature; though I don’t know why you’d use that aside from being super silly and creative with your posing. I mean, in all honesty, if you’re not posing your ash figure with his boot on Henrietta’s head, I just think you’re doing yourself a disservice. I suppose a movie poster pose ala the Army of Darkness would be okay too, but it’s Evil Dead II here, so…

Anyway, I know I say that one figure or another is my favorite figure quite a lot, and I don’t mean to be fickle, but this really has Mezco outdoing themselves. I’m sure I’ll love the Jason / Friday the 13th One:12 figure, but I’m not sure they can actually top this Ash figure, like ever. If there was a specific One:12 figure I’d say you should own 100%, it’s this figure.

Mezco Toyz One:12 Evil Dead 2 Ash Williams Figure Review

It's 1987 and Evil Dead had already made its mark a few years earlier with Bruce Campbell playing Ash Williams, but this time it started out as a vacation. After a demon poses as his girlfriend, Linda, he is forced to cut her head off and bury her in the woods. Pretty cool start to a movie, right? As the movie progresses characters come along, but the majority of the movie is plain nuts. It's a great cult classic, and if you haven't seen it yet you should watch all three movies (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness). Now it's time to take a closer look at Ash and see how well Mezco did translating him into figure form.

Ash isn't my favorite Mezco figure I have in my collection, but it's a very detailed figure that is fun to pose and play with. His soft goods are accurate and they even stitched his torn shirt to his pants so it stayed in place. After my long wait I am happy I decided to add him to my ever growing Mezco figure collection. Each figure we get from them really drums up excitement to see everything they come with and how detailed they are. Mezco is a really hot line right now, check us out on twitter @cobrashadowjoes and let us know what you think about the company!
